The short version. Use 1518 without an account and your coffees, brews and ratings never leave your phone. Sign in and they sync, so a new phone picks up where the old one left off — to your account, not to anyone else. Scanning a bag sends that photo to be read, and nothing else. There are no tracking cookies, no ad identifiers and no advertising profiles anywhere in the app or on this site.
1518 is a pour-over companion for iPhone, and this site is where you download it. Both are run by the maker of 1518, in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Anything unclear or anything you want removed: hello@1518.coffee.
What the website collects
- Your email, if you joined the waiting list. The list is closed now that 1518 has shipped, and the site no longer collects addresses. What was collected is the whole record — the address, which part of the page you signed up from, and the site that sent you here. It was used to tell you when 1518 was ready, and nothing else.
- An anonymous page count. The path you landed on and the referring site, with no cookie and nothing that identifies you, so we know whether anyone is reading.
What the app collects
- Photos of coffee bags you scan. The photo goes to our scanning service and to our AI provider for one purpose: reading the label. If you are signed in, the photo is also kept in your own private folder in our storage, so the bag still has its picture on your next phone.
- Your coffee log — the bags on your shelf, your brews, your ratings, your own recipes, and the kit and taste preferences you set during onboarding.
- Your account, if you make one. An email address and password, or Sign in with Apple, in which case Apple gives us your name and an email address — which may be Apple's private relay address rather than your real one. That is Apple's choice to offer and yours to make.
- Whether you have 1518 Plus. Apple handles the payment and tells us nothing about your card; we store only whether the subscription is active.
Where your coffee log actually lives
This is the part worth being precise about, because it changed.
Signed out, everything stays on the device. Your shelf, your brews, your ratings and your recipes are stored in the app and are never sent to us. Deleting the app deletes them.
Signed in, the same things sync to your account so they survive a lost phone and follow you to a new one. Each row is locked to your account at the database level: nobody else, signed in or not, can read it. Bag photos go to a private folder keyed to your account and are served through links that expire.
Reminders and the weekly and monthly recaps are scheduled by your phone, on your phone. We are not sent your brewing times.
What we do with it
- Read the label you scanned, and tell you what the coffee is.
- Keep your shelf, your brews and your recipes together, and in sync across your devices if you signed in.
- Email you about 1518, if you joined the waiting list before it shipped.
- Count visits and sign-ups in aggregate, so we know how much interest there is.
We do not use tracking cookies, advertising identifiers or third-party ad networks, and we do not build advertising profiles. We do not sell your personal data to anyone, and there is no arrangement under which we could.
Who else touches it
A small number of providers, each doing one job:
- Supabase — the database, the accounts, the private photo storage and the function that handles a scan.
- Anthropic — the AI that reads the label in a scanned photo.
- Apple — the App Store, Sign in with Apple, and 1518 Plus subscriptions.
- Cloudflare — serves this website.
How long we keep it
Waiting-list emails are kept until you ask us to remove them, or until the launch emails are done. A scanned photo is used to answer that one scan; if you are signed in it stays in your storage folder until you delete the bag or the account. Your coffee log lives as long as your account does — delete the account and it goes with it. On a device with no account, deleting the app is the delete button.
What you can ask for
- A copy of what we hold, or its deletion. Write to hello@1518.coffee and we will do it. If you are in the EU, the UK or California, this is a right you have rather than a favour we are offering, and we will not ask you why.
- Off the waiting list. Same address, and there is an unsubscribe link on every email we send. Ask and the address is deleted outright.
- To use the app without giving anything up. No account is required. Camera and photo access are only for scanning, and declining them leaves the rest of the app working.
Children
1518 is meant for adults and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect anything from them.
Changes
If this policy changes we will move the date at the top, and for anything material we will say so on this page rather than hoping you re-read it.
