Questions we get
A scan didn’t recognise my bag.
Take the photo of the front label, straight on, in daylight if you can — the label is what gets read, and a glare across it is the usual reason nothing comes back. You can also pick an existing photo from your library instead of shooting a new one.
Some small-batch bags are not in our references yet. Send us the roaster and the coffee’s name and we will add them.
The scan got something wrong.
Tap Edit details on the result and fix it — what you type wins, and it stays fixed. Nothing about a scan is locked.
Why does 1518 want the camera and my photos?
Only so you can scan a bag. Decline both and the rest of the app works exactly the same; you just type the coffee in yourself. See Privacy Terms for what happens to a photo once it is taken.
Do I need an account?
No. Signed out, your shelf and your brews live on your phone and stay there. Signing in syncs them to your account, so a new phone picks up where the old one left off — that is the only thing it changes.
I got a new phone. Where did my coffees go?
They sync only if you were signed in when you logged them. Sign in on the new phone with the same account and everything comes back. If you were signed out, the log was only ever on the old device — and we would rather tell you that than pretend otherwise.
What does 1518 Plus get me?
An unlimited shelf instead of ten coffees, your own saved recipes, and sync across devices. Everything else — scanning, the timer, the guides, the shelf itself — is free and stays free.
Subscriptions are handled by Apple. Manage or cancel one in Settings → your name → Subscriptions on your iPhone; we cannot do it from our side.
How do I delete my data?
Deleting the app removes everything held on the device. If you have an account, write to hello@1518.coffee and we will delete the account and everything in it. Same address for anything else.
When does it launch?
It is on the App Store now, iPhone first. Download 1518 — it is free, and 1518 Plus is optional.
